As we approach the end of the third quarter, we will begin to think about and plan for the placement of students for next school year. When forming classes, there are many variables to consider, but it is crucial to approach this important task by looking at the whole picture.
At TASD, we believe in a “Heterogeneous Policy” for class groupings. Research tells us that all students benefit from classes made up with a wide range of abilities and learning styles. This grouping practice is associated with efforts to assure high academic standards for all students and to allow all students the benefits of access to high-level instructional practices.
We believe that each child has something to contribute in school and in society, and that we can all learn from one another. We also know that we all confront a variety of personalities in life, and as educators, we have a responsibility to provide experiences for children which will build their skills in working with a variety of people.
When building class lists, we consider the whole child, one student at a time. We work as a team to discuss each child’s respective abilities and personalities as we attempt to create class groupings that will prioritize meeting all students’ needs.
Given the above, please know and understand that we will not honor requests for specific teachers or classroom placements.
Thank you for your support in this process.
